The complete curriculum

Ten modules, fifty original lecture slides, and the expanded study material written around them.

  1. 01DBS FoundationsSlides 1–5

Introduce the conceptual foundation of deep brain stimulation before patient selection, stereotactic planning, targeting, intraoperative physiology and programming.

  2. Move from patient and phenotype through stereotactic reference, target hypothesis, patient-specific imaging, functional territory and trajectory to an individualized DBS plan.

  3. Integrate image registration, trajectory, anaesthetic workflow, physiological information and clinical testing into one patient-specific final lead decision.

  4. Follow the implanted lead from mechanical execution through verification, reconstruction, stimulation-field control and therapeutic-window optimization.

  5. Build a systematic programming method — the programming loop, monopolar review and the therapeutic window — and adapt it to the physiology of each target.

  6. Move from field shaping and therapeutic-window reasoning to systematic failure localization, hardware surveillance and longitudinal adaptation of DBS therapy.

  7. Move from coordinates and nuclei towards patient-specific circuits, pathways and stimulation fields — while keeping lead location, phenotype and surgical safety central.

  8. Separate sensing from adaptive control, qualify biomarker claims honestly, and define precision as integration of evidence rather than accumulation of technology.

  9. Treat complication management as part of DBS surgery: classify the problem, localize the failure, and decide what genuinely requires revision.

  10. Close the curriculum as a case conference: troubleshoot a poor responder, read the landmark evidence honestly, argue two target-selection cases, and defend ten surgical pearls.
